Ethereum co-founder and ConsenSys CEO, Joseph Lubin, speaking at the 2019 Ethereal Summit, had some stark predictions for the future. He said that current President of the United States, Donald Trump, would be re-elected, Facebook would break up, and that the crypto market would surge with renewed vigor.
In his keynote address, Lubin covered a range of topics in his speech, most notably declaring a prediction that President Trump would be re-elected in 2020, and that America would be undergo a decline that would be accompanied by hate crimes and division.
Facebook, which has been at the center of controversy following the 2016 elections, has been under fire for some time now, which has been stoked by an op-ed by Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes that called for Facebook to be broken up.
Lubin touched upon this, saying that a breakup or restructuring of Facebook would help alleviate the divisions that many have claimed that the platform has played a role in.
Decentralized platforms, he believes, will play a role in creating a more unified and fairer world, mentioning the Civil platform, which ConsenSys supports. Lubin said,
Divorcing news delivery from the influence of advertising dollars was the breakthrough that drove the turnaround of western democracies.
By 2047, Lubin thinks that the state of society would be such that “We are all as a society able to engage in direct democratic decision-making.”
