Facebook Opens 28 Blockchain Jobs To Boost Its GlobalCoin Development

As an increasing number of reports stating that more details on Facebook’s crypto efforts will be revealed soon, the social media giant has just published 28 open positions for its blockchain division, The Block first reported on June 6.

There are positions available in the blockchain department, including in engineering, finance, legal and product management, and in several locations across the world.  

A recently published TechCrunch report also says that Facebook has planned June 18 for the release date of its GlobalCoin whitepaper. Reportedly, a Facebook executive accidentally revealed the date at the Money 20/20 event in Amsterdam, which matched an embargo date for the news that TechCrunch received.

Speaking to TechCrunch’s Josh Constine, German magazine WirtschaftsWoche‘s Sebastian Kirsch said,

[Facebook executive ]Laura McCracken told [the magazine] the white paper would debut June 18th. ‘I met Laura at Money2020 Europe in Amsterdam on Tuesday’… ‘She told me that she wasn’t involved in what David Marcus’ [Facebook Blockchain] team was doing. But that I’d have to wait until June 18th when a whitepaper was supposed to be published to get more details.’ She told him she thought the date was already a publicly known fact, which it wasn’t.

Facebook is almost certain to launch GlobalCoin in 2020, but a test version may be released towards the end of the year. It is expected to be pegged to multiple currencies – not just the US dollar – to mitigate price fluctuations.
