Mark Karpeles, the former CEO of ill-fated exchange Mt.Gox, has revealed that he will be starting on a new blockchain project from scratch, after coming through unscathed from most court charges. Japanese media outlet Mainichi reported the news that Karpeles would be working on a new Blockchain Operating System (OS) tech business based in the country.
Speaking at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan, Karpeles said of mission with new company Tristan Technologies,
My love for Japan has not changed. Japan used to be engineering superpower in terms of its PCs but right now, taking the cloud for example, it’s the U.S. that dominates. But I still believe in the potential Japan has and I would like to develop that.
The charges of embezzlement and fraud were dropped against Karpeles, but he was given a suspended sentence of 2.5 years for manipulating the exchange’s data. He is appealing this charge, which will not be executed unless he commits a violation in the next 4 years.
