HTC, which has released the blockchain and cryptocurrency focused phone HTC Exodus 1, plans to launch a second generation blockchain phone by the end of 2018, according to a report by Digitimes.
The new phone is being developed with the intention of boosting smartphone sales and deepening its position in the blockchain phone market, where Samsung is growing as a competitor as its flagship phone the Samsung Galaxy supports a few different cryptocurrencies. In addition to supporting the management of cryptocurrencies and related transactions, and virtualized personal electronics wallet seen in the prior generation, the new phone will extend its blockchain apps to include other areas such as browsing, messaging, and social media.
Chen also mentioned that the Exodus 1 met the company’s sales expectations, and the growing interest by new startups that engage in cryptocurrency trading has also contributed to the motivation of developing a next gen phone.
