The IOTA (MIOTA) project, which recently released a video that showed co-founder Dr. Serguei Popov hinting at the release of “Coordicide,” has now given some more indication that the massive move forward for the project will be arriving. The IOTA Foundation has just released another video explaining the significance of Coordicide.
IOTA’s coordinator was a temporary security solution, preventing attacks in the early stages of the network, and is a special node operated by the IOTA Foundation which creates “milestones.” Transaction validations happen when they are referenced to these milestones.
While this method of operation has served well as IOTA performed research and development, it had never been intended to be a permanent MO. Researchers have been studying for months how to operate the system without a coordinator, which not only removes the problem of centralization but also allows for scalability.
Coordicide is simply IOTA’s description of the act of removing the coordinator from IOTA’s network, a step away from its centralized nature but with strong security and scalability.
Undoubtedly, this is one of the biggest developments for the project, which hopes to bring its network to the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) industry.
