Samsung Galaxy S10’s Crypto Wallet Doesn’t Support Bitcoin (BTC)

After much hype and fanfare about how the Samsung Galaxy S10’s in-built support for cryptocurrency storage and dapp use might increase the adoption of crypto, some disappointing news has arrived — the Galaxy S10 does not support Bitcoin.

A CoinDesk report notes that Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens are supported by Samsung’s Blockchain Wallet but the world’s most valuable cryptocurrency by market cap, and the one that started it all, does not have support right from the get go.

However, it is possible that BTC will be supported in days to come, as the Bitcoin logo appeared in a recent video from a user who managed to get their hands on the device early.

Crypto enthusiasts are sure to take umbrage with the fact that the original cryptocurrency has not been included. No reason has been given as to why Bitcoin has been left out, though it could be for technical reasons.

However, there is some good news as both the CoinDuck and CryptoKitties dapps are supported by the S10. The latter especially is a highly popular game, and its collectible digital cats have been sold for as high as many thousands of dollars. The CoinDuck dapp, on the other hand, allows for payments to merchants.

As the Samsung Blockchain Wallet also supports ERC-20 tokens, you can store coins such as Basic Attention Token (BAT), Augur (REP), Maker (MKR), and Binance Coin (BNB). You can also add custom tokens, similar to how MyEtherWallet works.

The Samsung Blockchain Wallet is available for download from the Samsung Galaxy Store. Shipping for pre-orders of the S10 started on March 8.
