Grayscale Investments, a New York-based digital currency asset management firm, announced on May 1 the launch of an advertising campaign promoting virtual currency investment in the United States.
The investment firm will broadcast television commercials and social media ads that send the message for investors to drop gold and invest in virtual currencies like Bitcoin (BTC).

Drop Gold, Invest in Bitcoin
The Drop Gold campaign is based on the idea that Bitcoin has emerged as a digital alternative to gold investments. The advertising campaign sells this idea to the viewer, while also promoting Grayscale’s publicly traded Bitcoin Investment Trust (BIT), which has been trading under the ticker GBTC since 2015.
The commercial is comical and argues that gold investors are living in the past, with an old fashioned asset that’s quite literally weighing down their portfolio.
It juxtaposes Bitcoin with gold, touting the digital asset as superior in terms of speed, security, and efficiency, making it an essential asset in today’s digital world.
Moreover, Barry Silbert, the founder and CEO of Digital Currency Group and its subsidiary Grayscale Investments, outlined the generational shift in investment mentality. He stated that investments in gold will be reallocated to Bitcoin as baby boomers move their wealth to a younger generation of investors.
Adding to this, he said in a press release:
“The gold industry has done a fantastic job of marketing an overpriced metal, but Bitcoin has superior physical properties and market utility. I believe that Bitcoin will become the store-of-value for our digital age.”
