TRON’s First BitTorrent (BTT) Airdrop Begins, Plus Justin Sun Promises a Valentine’s Day Surprise

This week is of great significance for holders of TRON (TRX) and the BitTorrent token (BTT), as the first BitTorrent Token (BTT) airdrop to TRX holders will commence on Monday, February 11. After that, CEO of BitTorrent and founder of TRON Justin Sun has a secret campaign, to be released on Valentine’s Day. So keep your eyes peeled!

BitTorrent Token (BTT) Airdrop

What’s interesting about the BitTorrent (BTT) airdrop is that it’s not just a one-off event, but rather a series of monthly airdrops that will run until February 2025. In total, there are 990 billion BTT tokens on the TRON blockchain, and 10.1% of these will be airdropped to TRX holders over the next 6 years.

The token’s first airdrop takes place on February 11, once TRON’s block height reaches 6.6 million. 10,890,000,000 BitTorrent (BTT), corresponding to 1.1% of the total circulating supply, will then be distributed to TRX holders.

This first airdrop will reward TRX holders with 0.11 BTT for every 1 TRX held. By the end of the first 12 monthly airdrops, 990 million BTT tokens will have been distributed to TRX holders.

Then, for the next 12 months starting February 2020, the BTT airdrops will increase by 0.1% per month. It will continue in this pattern until it reaches 1.7% of the total supply in 2025.

As for wallets and exchanges supporting the BTT airdrops, the official TRON Wallet and Trust Wallet have both confirmed support, as well as major crypto exchanges Binance, OKEx, Huobi, and 11 others.

Justin Sun’s Valentine’s Day Surprise

In addition to the first BTT airdrop, Sun made an announcement via Twitter that he has a secret Valentine’s Day surprise for TRON and BitTorrent. Per the announcement, it appears it will be some kind of big event involving numerous celebrities — one of whom is a main character in the show Friends.

Many people have speculated that this will just be another one of Sun’s giant marketing ploys to pump TRX and BTT. While this may be the case, Sun hints that the surprise will be for a good cause, and he sounds genuinely excited about its unveiling.

In another tweet, Sun proclaims that the Valentine’s Day surprise will be in honor of Hal Finney, a software developer who received one of the first Bitcoin transactions from Satoshi Nakamoto. Finney died in 2014 following his battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Regarding this last tweet, it’s possible that the Valentine’s Day surprise will be geared towards raising awareness for ALS treatment and finding a cure. How Tron (TRX) and BitTorrent (BTT) will play a role in this is still unknown.
